History
Model history The audi 100/200 were first produced in 1968, and the model lines were continued through 1994. The model was named for the power that the engine it came with had (4 cyl 1.8l w/ 99hp) This C1 platform was soon release with other 4 cyl options as well. A 1.8l 79 hp(base engine), a 1.8 litre, w/ 89 hp and 1.8 litre, 99 hp.
The C2 platform was introduced in 1976, along with the worlds first gasoline powered 5cyl engine. In 1977, the coupe was discontinued while the Avant was introduced into the market. It was offered with several different engine options in the US:
* 2.1L 103 hp (1978−1983) * 2.1L turbocharged 130 hp (1980−1983) * 2.0L Diesel, 67 hp (1980−1983) * 2.0L Turbodiesel, 84 hp (1983)
The C3 was introduced in 1982, with a more aerodynamic body design and a few power options as well. It was available with a couple different engine options, including the turbocharged 2.2L MC (found in the 200 or 5000 turbo models) In 1989, the Audi 5000 name was dropped due to foorage about a so-called unintended accelaration problem on 60 minutes. The 100 and 200 model names used in Europe were then carried over, and in 1990 the 200 20v was introduced with the 3B engine, with an estimated 220hp.
Engine configurations available: Audi 100:

The end of the C3, also marked the introduction of the V8, which was essentially two 4cyl VW GTI blocks bolted together(available in either a 3.6 or 4.2), the body was very similar to that of a 200q, and it was the the first quattro to have an automatic transmission.
The C4 line 100s were heavily modified compared to the C3, released in 91. The main difference was the introduction of the 2.8l V6 engine that powered it. The 100 title was dropped in 1995, when it became known as the A6.
The V8 was available under the C3 platform until 1994, when it became the A8

Modifications
- Chipping/Boosting
There are several different power modifications that can be done, the first of course is with the ECU. The earlier turbo charged cars can have a zener diode soldered into the ECU to make it allow more boost. Now there are many different manufacturers of chips that can be soldered into the ECU to make boosting more manageable.
- Exhaust
The stock exhaust on the T44 cars is 2.5, which is more than enough for a normally aspirated car. A common modification for the turbo charged cars is to have a custom designed 3 inch cat and cat back exhaust made up and installed. An exhaust shop can do this pretty easily, and there are also some manufacturers of aftermarket exhaust.

- Fueling Kits
If you're looking for big power out of a CIS powered car, it can be converted over to electronic fuel injection(EFI) There are a couple suppliers out there( 034 and Megasquirt for instance) that make kits for converting these cars over. Not cheap by any means, but definitely doable, and effective

- Intercoolers
The stock intercooler for the MC is an inefficient dual pass design, with plastic end caps that can and do crack from age and excessive pressure. The intercooler from the 20v cars is more robust, and is commonly adapted to the earlier cars. Custom made aftermarket ICs are available as well, and with some fancy piping, easily installed for a good gain.
