Early C5's were born with Receded and down turned exhaust Tips, and a flattened matte black valance. Headlight Washer caps breach out of the front bumper which move up w/the nozzles when activated. These caps were infamous for flying off at highway speed. The Grille's design is an elongated upside down trapezoid, appointed with signature Chrome Audi Rings also on the trunk. Later in 2001 Model Year, the Exhaust valence was flared out, however the exhaust still hidden. 1998 A6's also had the option of the Santorin Blue Effect Color, which was later discontinued due to popularity(?). The Audi 2001 Allroad is another C5 variant, with the 4.2 Engine of the newer B6S4 and Older B5S4/C5A6 2.7Liter Biturbo V6.
Navigation was also an option with an affixed "Button" on the rear trunk as the antenna. Other Models have Navigation and antenna have centralized onto a "Shark Fin" affixed to the rear top of the roof, taking after the 2003 RS6/ and B6 series design.
2002 was the year that Audi decided to expose the exhaust tips, and provide the much needed A6 "facelift" version that the 2000 A6 4.2 started with originally. The front bumper was pulled in, with less snout to match the other A4 and A8 model lines at the time, and the grille was straightened more at the sides with chrome lining on the lower center grille to match the top. The headlight washer nozzles now sat flush with the bumper. 2002 MY's also reportedly have thicker glass windows for better sound and wind insultation for quieter city & highway travel.
the V8 variants, the C5 A6/S6 have more road appearance with their widened fenders and Forged 17" wheels called 'FAT 5s' (also shared on the TT225 as well in different bolt pattern, not to mention a V8 growl. 4.2 A6 and S6 models also received "Door blades" either matching the car's color (a6) or unpainted matte black (S6 option); C5 allroads receive chrome blades.
Front-Wheel Drive Versions of the C5 look the same, however distinctively have a Single Dual Pipe Exhaust that exists on the left valence of the car, similarly to the B5S4 pipe design.
